This slide provides an interesting example of when contextual information is lost if only a digital surrogate is relied upon for evidence. It may not seem that important, but notice how blue the sky is through the windows behind the men? What you can’t see in this scanned image is that a thin piece of blue film has been affixed to the back of the slide. Just a thought for the day I wanted to share. As we place increasing emphasis on making sure materials are available online–a blessing for access and preservation!–we also must not forget the value of examining the artifact IRL, so to speak.
